TAMARA RINGAS, VIOLIN, WITH PATRICIA WHITE, CELLO, ON THE CD "BE STILL, MY SOUL."
Jules Massenet (1842-1912), a French composer, composed "Meditation" from Thaïs in 1894. This stunning violin piece is a dramatic interlude, played by a solo violin with orchestral accompaniment, in the middle of the second act of Massenet's opera, Thaïs. The lyrical, expressive melody symbolizes the inner struggle of the opera's protagonist as she meditates and reflects upon the direction of her life.
